Blackhorse Farm, Wroughton
During the planting season of 2009/10, Cotswold Tree Surgeons were involved with the tree planting of approximately 10 hectares of new woodland on farmland situated between The Ridgeway School, Wroughton and the M4 Motorway. The woodland is part of the Great Western Community Forest, and we worked in partnership with the community forest team to mark out and create fantastic new woodland for the people of Swindon to use and enjoy.
On the 5th of December 2009, members of the public, in conjunction with pupils and teachers from The Ridgeway School, were invited to take part in a national tree planting record attempt. On the day, a total of 3500 trees were planted. Although the national record was not broken, it was a great success.
We currently continue to provide weed control and grass ride management for the site, and it is good to see so many local people using the area for recreation, hiking and dog walking.
High Penn, Calne
Cotswold Tree Surgeons are also proud to be involved in the major tree planting scheme at an old landfill site at High Penn, near Calne. Owned by Hills, we started in early 2010, and it culminated in a public tree planting event in early 2011. A total area in excess of 10 hectares of new woodland had been created. This important wildlife site is now being managed in partnership with Hills and the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
The site is planted with a wide selection of native trees and shrubs - and with its network of grass rides and pathways - it will soon become a beautiful woodland. This will not only be for the enjoyment of the residents of Calne, but will also double as a habitat for existing and future wildlife.
